Belonging by Nora Krug

Since we all enjoyed reading Irmina so much… here is a fabulous new graphic novel which treads similar territory.

A wholly original record of a German woman’s struggle with the weight of catastrophic history, Belonging is also a reflection on the responsibility that we all have as inheritors of our countries’ pasts.

And while we’re on the subject of graphic novels… we’re reading another graphic novel for our final book of the year at the school book club.  Here is our pick list of titles we’re choosing from, if you’re intersted.

The Best View Ever

There is the dock where Bob the Dog paddleboards.

Up the shore the asshole on his jet ski cuts a figure 8.

Our little bay is clogged with water lilies every July

Inviting my canoe to glide ever-closer for a better look.

The sun sets behind the canopy of pines.

Will it be a better day tomorrow or another day like today?

No matter.

I am alone on a rock toasting the best view ever.

An Irish Limerick

Written while travelling in Ireland, Fall 2018…

There once was two eejit’s from Mactier
Who came to Ireland for the beer
They loved the emerald green
So they rented a camping machine
We signed up for a winding slow ride
Not knowing it was all on the left side
Off we go down one lane roads
When meeting oncoming trucks you need to be bold
So narrow you can scratch your arm
No fear the mirrors already have seen much harm
Garry said we were a long long way to Tipperary
So off to ring of Kerry.

Holiday Greetings

Happy Holidays to all from our Winter Wonderland.

  • The first year in a good few where it’s been so snowy and white… but it has been awfully cold this past week, putting all of our systems to the test.

Those of us who are here over the holidays have just had a lovely little get-together for tea and coffee and treats, while talking about books and so much more.

One topic of conversation is especially worth mentioning for those of us who either live here at the lake or spend significant amounts of time at the lake:  the Key to Life.

Key to Life allows you to have ASA with you at all times.
In the event of a heart attack, chewing ASA (acetylsalicylic acid, commonly known as Aspirin®) has been shown to improve survival rates.  Most heart attacks happen outside the hospital. Should you or someone you know experience a heart attack, BE PREPARED, with Key to Life.

I’ve just come home and ordered 8.  Consider ordering some for yourself.
